Project will deliver fiber broadband citywide to over 26,000 homes & businesses
(Prescott, AZ) – This evening, Prescott City Council unanimously OK’d a proposal by Wecom Fiber, granting the Arizona-based broadband provider a license to install its fiber broadband citywide. Upon completion, the Wecom network will deliver ultra-fast Internet access to over 26,000 Prescott homes and businesses.
The $38 million project will be 100% privately-financed by Wecom. Construction is scheduled to begin within weeks. The first customers are expected to come online later this fall, with project completion within 18 months.
“Affordable and reliable fiber broadband is essential to Prescott families and businesses,” said Mayor Phil Goode. “Wecom’s fiber broadband network will be a welcome asset to our community.”
Wecom’s advanced fiber network will provide multi-gigabit Internet speeds – ideal for seamless streaming, remote work, online learning, business connectivity and more.
“High-speed fiber broadband is a true game-changer for Prescott,” said Paul Fleming, CEO of Wecom. “Because this project is fully funded by Wecom, Prescott families, students and businesses will soon have access to the fastest, most reliable and most affordable broadband available – without any cost to the city.”
In addition to Prescott, Wecom broke ground last month on a $35 million, 100% privately-financed broadband network in Prescott Valley. Wecom also has fiber broadband projects underway or soon to begin across multiple rural and unincorporated Yavapai County communities, including: Cordes Lakes, Spring Valley, White Horse Ranch, Paulden, Dewey-Humboldt, Rimrock and Beaver Creek. Wecom has partnerships with Yavapai, Coconino, Mohave, Pinal and La Paz counties, and is currently constructing a $45 million fiber broadband project across Flagstaff.
