Residents and businesses in Cordes Lakes and Spring Valley, Arizona, are on the verge of a significant technological upgrade. Wecom Fiber, in collaboration with Yavapai County officials, broke ground on an ambitious project to bring high-speed broadband Internet to these rural communities. This marks a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide in unincorporated areas of Yavapai County.
High-Speed Internet for Rural Communities
Yavapai County Supervisor James Gregory highlighted the importance of this initiative. “Internet connectivity has been a top priority for Yavapai County, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Wecom to deliver fast, reliable broadband to these rural communities,” said Gregory. “Broadband is a vital service that will benefit students, online job-seekers, remote workers, Internet retailers, and everyone else who depends on reliable access to high-speed Internet.”
The project, partially funded through a $2.6 million grant from the Yavapai County Broadband Initiative, involves the construction of approximately 62 miles of fiber. Upon completion, it will deliver multi-gigabit broadband capabilities to an estimated 2,160 homes and businesses in Cordes Lakes and Spring Valley. The completion date for this phase of the project is summer 2025.
A Commitment to Rural Connectivity
Paul Fleming, CEO of Wecom Fiber, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Rural Arizona deserves the very best in high-speed broadband connectivity, and that’s exactly what Wecom is delivering. Wecom is proud to partner with Yavapai County in expanding this essential infrastructure across communities where it is needed most.”
This project is part of a broader effort by Yavapai County and Wecom to enhance Internet access across several unincorporated areas, including White Horse Ranch, Paulden, Rimrock, and Beaver Creek. In total, Yavapai County has awarded Wecom $8.1 million in grants to support the construction of fiber broadband networks that will connect nearly 6,500 homes and businesses. Wecom is contributing private capital to cover the remaining costs, demonstrating its commitment to fostering connectivity in rural areas.
Affordable Broadband Options Across Arizona and Beyond
In addition to building robust broadband infrastructure, Wecom is committed to affordability. Customers in Cordes Lakes, Spring Valley, and other areas will have access to a variety of low-cost broadband plans. Wecom also participates in federal Internet accessibility programs, such as E-rate, Rural Health Care, and Lifeline, ensuring that high-speed Internet is within reach for all.
This project is just one of many initiatives Wecom Fiber has undertaken to improve broadband access. The company has ongoing fiber installation projects in Coconino County and has established agreements for similar projects in Mohave, Pinal, and La Paz counties. With offices in Phoenix, Kingman, Prescott, and Las Vegas, Wecom Fiber is a regional leader in high-speed broadband services.
