High Speed Fiber Internet Coming to VOC

September 7, 2026

At the August 13th meeting of the Big Park Council, WeCom presented its plans to bring fiber optic internet to the VOC in the coming years. The work has already started and is focusing on roads that are being repaired as part of Yavapai County’s annual maintenance plans. By laying the fiber before repairs, WeCom can save money by not having to pay for road repairs separately. If your house is on a street with lots of painted markings, then you will have access to WeCom fiber internet in early 2027. It’s my understanding that some properties may not see fiber to their home until 2029.

I have been pursuing high-speed reliable internet in the VOC for almost a decade – first as an interested individual and then as a board member of the Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization (VVREO). Those of us who have been here that long might remember how painfully slow internet was, especially when doing video calls or even watching streaming video like YouTube. The slow internet made it impossible for many young people to move to Big Park and Sedona if they needed fast internet for their jobs or businesses. Back then I had to check into a local hotel when teaching classes online in order to reliably engage my classes.
